Problem
Access way was required to allow the building of a stage and a fairground area as well as roadway for backstage parking/access.
The traffic ranged from light cars and vans through to 60+ ton trucks.
Initial site survey highlighted the fact that the ground was reclaimed sea area and prone to water logging due to high groundwater levels.
Solution
We advised the client to lay a small amount of hardcore at the site entrance to give extra stability to the mats that were laid on top. Also geotech cloth/Terram was laid underneath all sections of mats to prevent water rising up from the weight of passing traffic.
All mats were pinned extensively and connectors used at every adjoining area. Heavy rain fell during the build up and the event itself but no problems were encountered.
