Problem

The Stiftung Swiss School of Public Health is presently undergoing both renovation work as well as extension work to increase the size of their training and teaching facilities. The construction work is due to run for 3 months and a temporary access way was required to allow access for all types of heavy plant and machinery such as aggregate lorries, cranes and piling rigs and at the same time protect the existing hard standing areas.

Solution

Zigma® Ground Solutions along with one of their key distributors in Switzerland provided the site with the EuroMat®, Europe’s leading ground protection and temporary access mat.

Approximately 300m2 (about 100 EuroMat®) were installed to provide a safe, secure, temporary road. The mats were held in place by 2 and 4 way connectors and once fully installed provided a roadway approximately 4.8m wide and 70m in length.

The unique chevron traction surface design of the EuroMat® is pedestrian friendly making it ideal for the site workers and staff working at the school, it also however provides ultimate grip for any plant and machinery moving in and out of the site.

The mats also disperse of any weight moving over them and therefore protect the underlying hard standing areas that needed to be protected from damage.

Verdict

At present the project is 4 weeks in to a 12-16 week hire, the contractor and school staff are extremely impressed with how easily and quickly the mats were installed and how little interruption the temporary roadway has caused to the day to day running of the school.
